Hello Back and I’m thrilled to see a website devoted to Irene Rice Pereira. I have recently discovered her art and a little about her life story and want to know much much more. Difficult to find detailed info on the web. So this is a GREAT start. Thanks!! P.S. Has this site been up long?

Dear Patti,
Happy to hear from you.
The web site is still under construction, and there will be some changes and improvements. It’s meant to be a portal for students, scholars and everyone interested in Irene’s work. Irene was my aunt, my mother’s older sister. You might also enjoy visiting my mother’s website at wwww.juanitaguccione.com.

Irene was quite well known at her death in 1971, but since then there has been a groundswell of interest in her work and life. She was outspoken, and outspoken women, particularly when their views are critical of the art establishment, are often punished in our society. And while that circumstance has ameliorated somewhat since her death, it remains true.

Please feel free to correspond whenever you like.

Warm regards,
Djelloul Marbrook

Hello Djelloul,
I’m already ahead of you. I’ve been reading about your mother for the last few months also. And then it led me to your website which I love reading btw. I was wondering if it was you who was putting Irene’s site together. And just today I saw your mother’s site. I have this enormous curiousity about why I never heard about these two incredible women before now. It is a funny but long story about how I became so immersed in researching the two of them so I won’t tell it now, but suffice to say that the strangest things do happen at just the right times, don’t they? And I crave finding out more about their personal background to understand them better. You are the link. So if you have any ideas – or stories to share – please pass them along….

Many thanks and kindest regards,
Patti Silva
